The ever-changing playing field of eCommerce...

1. Who won at eCommerce last year? Some companies gained a lot more than others in 2022. In fact, adjusting for inflation, the space may not have grown at all. Comparing the performance of some big players from pre-covid (2019) to last year, Ebay fared the worst at +17% growth with Amazon close by, Etsy did well with +151% gain, and Shein went to space with +900%. 2. Amazon taking 50% of your revenue? Accounting for everything you reasonably have to do to thrive in the Amazon marketplace, Amazon is taking a huge chunk of your money. Everything from storage fee increases and the ever-growing necessity of ad spend combine to cost the seller a small fortune on the platform. [Learn more].

3. Shein headed to the U.S. The online fashion app will likely come to the U.S if successful outside of China. With $30 billion in sales in 2022 and consistently near the top in downloads, Shein is a major player in the space. While the company doesn't have any U.S. sellers, that may be about to change if the company's push into Mexico and Brazil is successful. [Learn more].

4. Ebay sales drop nearly 9%. 2022 had a lot of rough spots for eCommerce, and Ebay felt one of those spots in Q4 with an 8.9% drop in sales compared to the same quarter in '21. It's worthy to note, though that Ebay's advertising revenue is up, and delivered $276 million... Seems like they're taking lessons from Amazon. [Learn more].

5. Amazon diving deeper into healthcare. We already know Amazon is sending prescriptions, but now they are becoming involved on a broader scale with their recent acquisition of One Medical. [Learn more].
