Consumers are spending in airline miles over Amazon carts

1. Are people shopping or sightseeing this holiday season? Despite higher than usual airline fares, we are seeing a shift from gift-buying to travelling this season. Ecommerce is suffering with Amazon and FedEx already showing weaker than expected earnings, while airlines, hotels, restaurants, and theme parks are benefitting. [Learn more].

2. Etsy is making shopping easier with visual search rolling out to iOS users. The search tool is beneficial for users who may struggle to describe their item, and can be used for shapes, shades of colors, and even assist you in procuring a hand-crafted piece (for example, furniture) similar to your picture, where available. 3. Ebay is consolidating user experience and pushing deep learning. The online selling giant has combined the listing experience for sellers across platforms, while creating and easier payment experience for buyers. These initiatives combined with Ebay's dive into deep learning (The company's aim at increasing conversions and learning customer behavior), the platform is showing that it's still a strong player in the online retail space. 4. Walmart is adopting Amazon's strategy in strong push to WFS. WFS or "Walmart Fulfillment Services" is Walmart's answer to Amazon FBA, tying in closely with Walmart+. Research shows that while in some cases third parties comprise over half of online listings, Walmart ships 80-90% of items from its warehouses-which make them eligible for the free shipping and other perks of Walmart+. 5. Hiring freeze across Amazon - even AWS. While AWS is still growing, growth is down 12% compared to this time last year. AWS went from 21,000 available jobs on October 3rd to just 5,700 in early November, with Amazon looking to strategically place staff and backfill select positions. [Learn more].
